S.Brin, R. Murdoch, T. Semel And Susan Decker On One Stage!
The presidential conference, Israel 2008
Israel’s 60 anniversary celebrations has been wrapped up with one of the biggest events in its history, President Shimon Peres’ Presidential Conference, taking place in Jerusalem this week under the title "Facing Tomorrow".
President Peres has managed to do what no event, celebratory or mournfully, was able to do – to bring to Israel a long list of world and business leaders to discuss the future of the state of Israel, and, well, the world. The distinguished guests were headed by the President of the United State, George Bush, and his wife Laura, former heads of states, CEOs and presidents of the world’s leading media and technology corporations and many more.
On Thursday, May 15th, the subject of the morning panel of the conference was "The Internet and the New media revolution" and was headed by Yossi Vardi, Israel’s leading technology entrepreneur.
Highlights from the morning session include:
Sergei Brin, google’s founder: Who qualified Google’s recently opened Israel offices in Haifa as already bringing fantastic results. In discussing the future of the Internet Mr. Brin talked about the acceleration of the ease of communication and finding information. " I was here on the 80′Th birthday of Shimon Peres, and it’s amazing to see how Israel has developed and changed in such a short period of time. We opened here our Israeli offices, which developed us fantastic new products for all Google consumers. "It’s an honor to be here. When I began surfing the web in 1993 there were very few Internet sites. When I searched for new sites I received a monthly list of new sites that have been added on to the web" said Brin. "In those days search engines had no importance. Thanks to sites like My Space and Wikipedia the Internet has expanded it’s growth. Technology like this can be used for good bad and even foolish purposes. It’s easy to concentrate in the extreme situations of the bad uses of it but you can not ignore how our life has changed. We will see the Internet progress forward, and we’ll be more connected. To some people it seems scary but it is exactly like the cellular phones-you can turn it off whenever you want."
He also indicated the Internet will evolve into providing a more natural way of communication which will be almost like talking to each other – communicating emotions, using body language and more. "We’re at the tip of the iceberg, it’s our responsibility to make sure that the Internet becomes easier to use and accessible to everyone" said Brin.
Susan Decker, Yahoo’s president: Her "slogan" was – "the more things change, the more they stay the same" which is a leading concept in wanting to simplify and speed up existing features and technologies. Decker talked about the transition from mass media to "my media" – surface what’s important to you.
If Content is king, she said, now individuals are their own monarchs and in order to fit into that scheme, Yahoo’s plans:
- More open experience – consumer chooses what and when.
- Personalized content – whether its user generated or mass produced.
- Improve connection between the online world and the offline world, which is pretty much a digitation of everything else we do.
Rupert Murdoch: "I, like everyone, am proud to be a guest here at the 60 anniversary of a free society in the Middle East. The future belongs to freedom. It is my honor to share this panel with people with great vision. I strolled along the streets of Jerusalem and I had the pleasure of seeing this country evolve so amazingly like it is today. Everyday we read the affect of the Internet on our life and the media. We are used to the world that "one thing fits everything". A young man from Tel-Aviv doesn’t have to get the same news as a 50 year old person in Chicago. There are people who look at the future in a pessimistic manner, but I have a different point of vision. I believe that we are at the beginning of the golden age. The Internet gives us the opportunity to change entire areas in the world. History has shown us that every technological development made companies and businesses more creative and satisfy the customers more. Today we read the papers online without paying for them; you can reach out for an enormous amount of information all through your desktop. Technology changes the human assets to a much greater one. You Israelis, understand that well. Human assets turn you to the center of technology around the world. If you ask big company leaders what was their purpose, they wouldn’t say developing technology, but satisfying people. Today the NDS has about 3500 Israeli employees around the world. The technology of NDS is printed in 35 countries in numerous companies, and helps us to transfer our data to customers.
Other distinguished speakers in the panel were Maurice Levy, the CEO of Publicis who said this world is and will continue to be financed by advertising, And The panel was wrapped by Terry Semel – former chairman and CEO of Warner Bros., former chairman and CEO of yahoo who stressed once again that you can’t hold back time & change, and that he is very optimistic about the direction content is going towards being better than ever before.

Rontal Announces Rugged Portable Incident Management System
Rontal Applications Ltd., a developer and provider of innovative incident management and operational continuity systems, announced a rugged portabe version of its SimGuard incident management system. The system, SimGuard4000 MOBILE, enables incident management from mobile platforms, such as a vehicle or trailer. SimGuard 4000 MOBILE is an ideal solution for monitoring and securing public gatherings, such as large-scale entertainment and sporting events, festivals, demonstrations, temporary facilities such as large fairs, and similar venues. In addition, SimGuard 4000 MOBILE can serve as a mobile extension of the SimGuard static system, and help organizations manage their emergency situations in an even more effective manner.
SimGuard4000 MOBILE includes three 20-inch screens, is shock and dust proof, and can withstand high humidity and temperature changes. It includes all applications and features of the SimGuard 4000 local site management system, encompassing all phases of the incident: planning, training, real-time and debriefing.
When SimGuard4000 MOBILE serves as a mobile extension to a static system, all the information stored in the main system is duplicated on the rugged portable system. When serving as a stand-alone system to monitor large-scale events, the planning and preparation phase includes virtual installation of various sensors, such as video cameras and access control devices (whether already in place or temporary devices yet to be installed), and assesses the vulnerability of the environment. Law enforcement officers and event managers may conduct simulations for different potential scenarios using 3D models, allowing them to gain an early understanding of potential security and safety situations before they occur.
During a large scale public event, SimGuard4000 MOBILE gathers information from all available sensors (such as permanent and temporary cameras), fusing and presenting it on one Situational Awareness 3D display of the site. This display enables staff managing the event rapidly to understand the implications of an incident, identify the relevant scenario from the scenario library, and predict the potential impact on subsequent event activities. The system enables security managers, who are not necessarily familiar with the site (for example - when the site is a temporary venue for a mass gathering), to make the optimal decisions in real time.
SimGuard4000 MOBILE can continue to manage the site or the scene even if it has to be moved from the event’s location. This is accomplished by landline or wireless Internet, and is agnostic to geographical position. This feature is important when the incident includes evacuation scenarios, and the command post must help monitor the site and the evacuees who are assembled in remote locations.
