NICE signs another video security contract in China
Israeli NICE Systems, a leading global provider of advanced solutions that enable organizations to extract Insight from Interactions to drive performance, recently announced that it has received another follow-on order from the Ministry of Railway (MOR) in China, for NiceVision Net, the Company’s end-to-end solution for video security with content analytics.
The IP-based video security NICE solution was selected following successful implementation on the Qing Zang rail — the railroad connecting Lhasa in Tibet to Germu in Qinghai, and the Beijing-Tianjin inter-city passenger line — the country’s first high-speed passenger rail service.
The Israeli company’s business partner for the project is Smartron Technology (China) Inc.
The Hefei-Wuhan high-speed rail line, which is expected to launch in 2009, is part of a massive upgrade and expansion of the railway system of China and is part of China’s first high-speed train service.
The Hefei-Wuhan rail line, which is part of the line which runs from the east coast of China to the heart of China’s mid-west, will serve as a great contributor to the economic development of the Anhui Province of which Hefei is the capital.
The Israeli scalable IP-based video security analytics solution will be deployed to help protect the railway including its tracks and stations, to verify that there is no destruction and to prevent accidents. By providing real-time alerts to security personnel, the result will be enhanced passenger safety and better asset protection.
NiceVision Net will provide video security unprecedented reliability, with a high availability architecture that is supported by unique features, such as patent pending Zero Points of Failure encoder redundancy, ensuring non-stop surveillance under any condition for mission critical applications.

Alvarion Deploys First 3.3 GHz WiMAX Network In UK
Alvarion® Ltd. the world’s leading provider of WiMAX™ and wireless broadband solutions, announced that its BreezeMAX® platform is being used by Metranet, a wireless specialist, to deploy the first WiMAX network using the 3.3 GHz spectrum in the UK. Metranet is using this frequency through gaining a Non-Operational Temporary license from Ofcom, the independent regulator and competition authority for the UK communications industries, specifically for this network. This is part of a SEEDA (South East England Development Agency) match-funded innovation project.
Alvarion’s BreezeMAX base stations and CPEs enable Metranet to provide backhaul for CCTV cameras (closed circuit TV), and traffic junction control throughout Reading. The WiMAX network went live in March 2008 and replaced the existing wired network. Live video from main roads and junctions is streamed back to a central control room, and traffic lights can then be manually controlled via the WiMAX network to improve traffic flow. Automatic License Plate recognition is also being built into the system.
Information about the traffic situation is provided to a variety of outlets:
- Shopping centers
- Reading’s Hexagon theater with 40” display screens
- Intranet systems
- Reading’s official travel website www.reading-travelinfo.co.uk
- Mobile phones for real time travel information
Many towns and cities throughout the world are finding new bandwidth-intensive applications – such as CCTV – expensive to operate, particularly when they involve using wired infrastructure such as leased lines. By using Alvarion’s network costs were significantly reduced.
Simon Beasley, Transport Network Manager, Reading Borough Council: “Reading is a prosperous town with an expanding population, and consequently there are significant pressures on the road network. The communications needed to connect and control the real time traffic management systems needed to be more powerful than before. Alvarion’s WiMAX network performance has not only achieved this level of reliability but also exceeded our expectations with clear images from even the very distant cameras.”
Roger Horlock, Director of Metranet, said: “A dedicated frequency is ideal for a mission-critical deployment in a city like Reading. In the future we plan to expand the network to help facilitate new applications such as providing real-time travel information to train and bus passengers, CCTV monitoring in buses to improve security and ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) to improve traffic flow. We chose Alvarion’s BreezeMAX because it is the most reliable and flexible system on the market today.”

Israeli Retalix Solution Deployed By A Major U.S. Supermarket Chain
Retalix, an Israeli global provider of software solutions for retailers and distributors, recently announced that Food Lion LLC, a North-American subsidiary of Brussels-based Delhaize Group, has deployed the Retalix Yard Management solution at its 1.8 million sq. ft. headquarters distribution center in Salisbury, N.C.
The Salisbury facility serves more than 300 stores within the company’s geographic footprint. Food Lion will continue to roll out the Retalix solution at its seven other distribution centers. This expansive network serves approximately 1,300 stores in 11 Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states.
The Retalix Yard Management system is designed to automate the yard and dock management process through advanced predictive logic and leading-edge optimization algorithms. Using powerful software engines and rich visibility tools, Retalix Yard Management system eliminates operational silos and synchronizes yard and dock activity with distribution center demand in real time.
As part of this and subsequent implementations, Food Lion will use radio frequency identification (RFID) technology in tandem with the Retalix solution. Radio frequency identification readers are being installed at the entry and exit points of the company’s distribution centers, and each of the nearly 2,000 trailers in the Food Lion fleet will be affixed with a rugged RFID tag, automating the processing of arrival and departure information.
The Israeli Retalix Yard Management system was designed using the Microsoft.NET platform. The application is part of the recently announced Retalix Transportation Solutions Suite, which was created in 2007 following the acquisition of software solutions developed by BGI. These software solutions of the Israeli company are designed to fulfill the critical transportation requirements of inbound traffic, yard management and dock scheduling for grocers and distributors. Additional offerings include Retalix Traffic Management, which provides comprehensive inbound freight management for planning, procurement, execution, settlement, visibility and supplier control; and Retalix Dock Management, which uses appointment-scheduling functions to optimize resources, predict labor demands, facilitate carrier scheduling via the Web and streamline the flow of goods through the distribution center.
