The Internet and the New media revolution

The presidential conference, Israel 2008

Israel’s 60 anniversary celebrations has been wrapped up with one of the biggest events in its history, President Shimon Peres’ Presidential Conference, taking place in Jerusalem this week under the title "Facing Tomorrow".

President Peres has managed to do what no event, celebratory or mournfully, was able to do – to bring to Israel a long list of world and business leaders to discuss the future of the state of Israel, and, well, the world. The distinguished guests were headed by the President of the United State, George Bush, and his wife Laura, former heads of states, CEOs and presidents of the world’s leading media and technology corporations and many more.

On Thursday, May 15th, the subject of the morning panel of the conference was "The Internet and the New media revolution" and was headed by Yossi Vardi, Israel’s leading technology entrepreneur.

Highlights from the morning session include:

Sergei Brin, google’s founder: Who qualified Google’s recently opened Israel offices in Haifa as already bringing fantastic results. In discussing the future of the Internet Mr. Brin talked about the acceleration of the ease of communication and finding information. " I was here on the 80′Th birthday of Shimon Peres, and it’s amazing to see how Israel has developed and changed in such a short period of time. We opened here our Israeli offices, which developed us fantastic new products for all Google consumers. "It’s an honor to be here. When I began surfing the web in 1993 there were very few Internet sites. When I searched for new sites I received a monthly list of new sites that have been added on to the web" said Brin. "In those days search engines had no importance. Thanks to sites like My Space and Wikipedia the Internet has expanded it’s growth. Technology like this can be used for good bad and even foolish purposes. It’s easy to concentrate in the extreme situations of the bad uses of it but you can not ignore how our life has changed. We will see the Internet progress forward, and we’ll be more connected. To some people it seems scary but it is exactly like the cellular phones-you can turn it off whenever you want."

He also indicated the Internet will evolve into providing a more natural way of communication which will be almost like talking to each other – communicating emotions, using body language and more. "We’re at the tip of the iceberg, it’s our responsibility to make sure that the Internet becomes easier to use and accessible to everyone" said Brin.

Susan_Decker Susan Decker, Yahoo’s president: Her "slogan" was – "the more things change, the more they stay the same" which is a leading concept in wanting to simplify and speed up existing features and technologies. Decker talked about the transition from mass media to "my media" – surface what’s important to you.

If Content is king, she said, now individuals are their own monarchs and in order to fit into that scheme, Yahoo’s plans:

  1. More open experience – consumer chooses what and when.
  2. Personalized content – whether its user generated or mass produced.
  3. Improve connection between the online world and the offline world, which is pretty much a digitation of everything else we do.

murdoch Rupert Murdoch: "I, like everyone, am proud to be a guest here at the 60 anniversary of a free society in the Middle East. The future belongs to freedom. It is my honor to share this panel with people with great vision. I strolled along the streets of Jerusalem and I had the pleasure of seeing this country evolve so amazingly like it is today. Everyday we read the affect of the Internet on our life and the media. We are used to the world that "one thing fits everything". A young man from Tel-Aviv doesn’t have to get the same news as a 50 year old person in Chicago. There are people who look at the future in a pessimistic manner, but I have a different point of vision. I believe that we are at the beginning of the golden age. The Internet gives us the opportunity to change entire areas in the world. History has shown us that every technological development made companies and businesses more creative and satisfy the customers more. Today we read the papers online without paying for them; you can reach out for an enormous amount of information all through your desktop. Technology changes the human assets to a much greater one. You Israelis, understand that well. Human assets turn you to the center of technology around the world. If you ask big company leaders what was their purpose, they wouldn’t say developing technology, but satisfying people. Today the NDS has about 3500 Israeli employees around the world. The technology of NDS is printed in 35 countries in numerous companies, and helps us to transfer our data to customers.

Other distinguished speakers in the panel were Maurice Levy, the CEO of Publicis who said this world is and will continue to be financed by advertising, And The panel was wrapped by Terry Semel – former chairman and CEO of Warner Bros., former chairman and CEO of yahoo who stressed once again that you can’t hold back time & change, and that he is very optimistic about the direction content is going towards being better than ever before.

Mate

MATE Intelligent Video, the technology leader in intelligent video surveillance systems and video analytics, will present seamless integration of its advanced video analytic products with American Dynamic® latest version of Network Client Remote Management Software at IFSEC 2008.

American Dynamics Intellex® is an advanced digital video management system for digital recording, archiving, and retrieval of multiple video feeds. Through its Network Client graphical interface, users can monitor and manage live or recorded video from any number of Intellex systems on the network.

MATE Intelligent Video’s adaptive topology offers seamless integration between American Dynamics Intellex and Intellex IP, and both trigger, MATE’s powerful edge device detection solution, and Behavior Watch, MATE’s server-based advanced surveillance solution. This seamless integration allows users to receive proactive real-time alarms without having to continuously stare at the monitors.

MATE Intelligent Video’s Behavior Watch NLX utilizing MATE’s robust video analytics technology literally "snaps-in" to the Network Client interface to process up to eight video streams originating from the Intellex family of digital or network video recorders. The video stream transmitted over the network from the Intellex is processed and analyzed by Behavior Watch NLX, and alarms are displayed with pre and post video clip alarms and the analytic overlay within Intellex Network Client. Rules and Detection zones are also set up from within Network Client.

MATE Intelligent Video’s Trigger product line is a robust video encoder with embedded analytics that allows for streaming of video over IP, with the analytic overlay, to the Intellex IP server. Trigger receives the analogue video input from the camera, processes and analyzes it, and then transmits the video stream with the analytic overlay together with Metadata information, to the Intellex server.

Behavior Watch NLX and Trigger will be on demonstration at IFSEC 2008 (stand no. 16144, Hall 18), NEC, Birmingham from 12-15 May 2008.
